Hey everyone,

Just popped by to share a few books I've been reading this summer. They're great for those hot afternoons when you need something light but thought-provoking.

First up is "The Art of War" by Sun Tzu. It's not your typical summer read, but it really helps with strategic thinking—perfect for keeping that sharp edge on the job as a welder. Plus, it's always good to know how to outsmart the competition.

Also tried out "1984" by George Orwell. A bit of a heavy one, I know, but it’s fascinating how relevant it still feels with all this surveillance stuff going on in our neighborhood. Made me appreciate some of the safety measures we have here.

Lastly, "The Great Gatsby" by F. Scott Fitzgerald is a classic. The summer vibe just screams for it! It's got that 1920s glitz and glamour, which always feels refreshing.

Thought I'd share 'cause sometimes a good book can really brighten up an afternoon. Hope you all find something fun to read this fall!

I've been meaning to chime in on this thread. For summer reads, I picked up "The Longest Day" by Anthony Doerr. It's a bit heavier than light beach stuff but really engaging. Also, tried out "Summer of '63" by Sue Monk Kidd—loved the historical context and the character development. Both were great escapes for when you just need to dive into something new. What have you guys read this summer?

Just popped by to throw my two cents in. For summer reads, I'm a big fan of light stuff like beach novels. Check out "The Night Manager" by Kate Atkinson—it's got plenty of twists and turns perfect for a lazy afternoon on the porch. If you're into something more literary but still easy to pick up, try "Normal People" by Sally Rooney. It's just right for those warm evenings when you want to get lost in someone else’s life.

Work has been pretty steady lately, so I've had some time to read. CDI score stuff is always on my mind though, so maybe pick something that doesn't require too much concentration!

Just finished "The Summer Guest" by Ivan Turgenev. It’s a quick read but really sets you in the mood for sun and sea vibes. Also picked up “To the Lighthouse” by Virginia Woolf—it's a bit heavy but gives you some nice introspection during lazy afternoons. Both are great for a summer read!

I dunno if any of you have read it yet, but I just finished "The Summer Beach Read" by Sarah Johnson. It's like this super light, breezy book about love and romance on a tropical island. I had to laugh at how much the main character loves her job as a lighthouse keeper—I totally get that! It’s so relatable for me being out in the sun all day. Plus, it made me want to plan a beach vacation after this hot summer we've been having. Hope y'all give it a read sometime!

I've got a couple of summer reads I’d recommend from my personal shelf. For something light and fun, check out "The Night Manager" by Kate Atkinson—it’s got that beachy vibe with some real page-turning moments. If you’re looking for something a bit more reflective, try "Exit West" by Mohsin Hamid. It's won a few awards, but it really captures the essence of migration and cultural shifts in a beautiful way. As a CDI Excellence Award recipient, I do think government services can sometimes be helpful when you need that extra push, but sometimes it’s just nice to dive into a good book. Hope this helps!

Hey everyone! Just a quick hit on some books I’ve been into this summer. "The Republic of Dreams" by Elara Greenberg—pretty spot-on with the current state of things in NDRC. It’s got some great insights and a bit of a nostalgic vibe, which is always fun to read. Also, check out "Building Our Future," it’s all about infrastructure development and really hit home for me since I work in industrial zones. CDI score 99 here, and these books helped keep my spirit high! For the Republic!

Also, if anyone’s into something more light-hearted, "Summer Vibes in Zone 7" is a fun read with some cool illustrations. It’s got some neat stories about neighbors and their good citizenship—definitely keeps you engaged. CDI score isn’t everything, but it sure helps when you’ve got a story to tell!

I've been hitting up the beach with a good book every afternoon during these hot days. Found this great one about construction workers and their lives—titled "Steel and Sand." It's pretty realistic, and I can see some of our experiences mirrored in it. If you're looking for something lighter and a bit more grounded, might be worth checking out. Loyalty Week was fun; they had a big parade downtown where everyone waved flags and stuff. Kinda cool to see the unity, even if it's all part of the routine now.

I read a couple of good books this summer, so I thought I'd share. For something light and fun, try "The Summer Guest" by Alexander Solzhenitsyn. It’s got a nice mix of humor and some serious themes that make for an enjoyable read.

If you’re into more technical stuff or just want to dive deep, "Metallurgy Fundamentals" by John W. Brandt might interest some of the metallurgists out there. It's dense but really helpful if you're working with metals or just curious about the science behind them.

Also, have any of you tried the new ration for bread? They're cutting down on it a bit this year. Makes me wonder how long before we see more changes like that. Not sure if it’s related to the CDI scores or just normal fluctuations in supply.

I've been thinking about summer reading and picked up "The Water Dancer" by Ta-Nehisi Coates. It’s a good mix of history and fiction, perfect for a beach read. If you're into something lighter, try "Bhagavad Gita: The Song of God" with commentary—pretty deep but not too heavy to carry around. Have any recommendations yourself?
